Roses are red...
Roses are red
Pens (some) are blue
Violet is pretty
& so are you
Not a very good recap. Maybe you can correct my childhood memory of such poems.
Do you remember those times? End of year routine. Girls running around frantically, asking (and selectively choosing) friends to write down some tots or words, so that we can look at it again in 10 years time and remember e good times we have had. Well, maybe.
Mostly though, all you ever get from them were some meaningless friendship poems which usually --- RHYmes.
Not so for this friend of mine. She wrote totfully + encouragingly about the times we have shared & how she had cherish our time together. I think she did the same to everybody who asked her to write in their special book. Mostly, she will write something about God too. Not some poems which usually -- RHYmes.
I remember a science project which we did together. I think the theme was Human Digestive system. Our plan was to build the human anatomy model. First, we found a large piece of wood, drew out the shape of a human being and shape out the organs with materials like wool with red paint, tube, rubber, etc. We have to use nails and super, super glue to put everything together. It was hard work, but it was really worth the effort for we got 2nd prize for the Science Project Competition. Our Principal was so pleased with our project that he placed that piece of art in the school's open house exhibition. I have never been so proud!
"Ant is small and insignificant. Don't you think?" I nodded and yawned.
"It is! It is!", she persisted, "Take a look at them? We, human beings, are way bigger than them. See?! See how my hand block this tiny, little ant and notice how it is trying frantically to find a way to escape!"
Sheepishly, I yawned again and mumbled, "and your point is...."
"Well, don't you see?! God is like Man & we are like these ants. We are small and insignificant. Yet God, who is so much bigger than us, cares and loves us. If something block our ways, we became scared - like this ant here. We forgot that God can see beyond what we cannot see. He is in control and guiding us all the time. We, as ant, need to remember that our God is watching over us. He will not carelessly stepped onto us. As a matter of fact, He is so careful with us that he actually planned the way for us to walk. Each and every single human being (aka ants) in the world!"
I was awake by then. We went on to discuss further about what ant can see and cannot see, can do and cannot do, what 'man' can do and ant cannot do... I have always remember that conversation held in Jurong East BK, during one of our O Level Exam revision time together.
Mostly, she had left a mark in my life. Some good, some bad.
Nevertheless, it will definitely not be any of those poems which usually -- Rhymes.
